I'm excited to review the book The Upworld, the debut novel from author Lindsey S. Frantz and published by Line by Lion Publications.
The mark of a good story is one that can draw you in and captivate you. The Upworld hits that mark and then some. It’s been a couple of weeks since I finished reading it and the story is still sticking with me.
One thing you should know about me: I pride myself on being able to figure out plots of books, TV shows, and movies before the end. I used to annoy my parents and brother trying to guess what was going to happen next.
Well, the Upworld absolutely threw me for a loop. Every time I would think “ah, I see where this is going now,” the book would take a wide left turn and leave me guessing again. Instead of being frustrating, these twists and turns were pleasant. They took me along for the ride rather than leave me sputtering and huffing trying to keep up.
Not only is the plot unique, the world that Frantz builds is engaging and creative. She does a fantastic job at opening up the world a little bit at a time and connecting all the threads. The use of different narrators and point of views move the story along at a nice pace. The descriptions and language are also delightful. It is always nice in a book when I can stop for a moment to appreciate the beauty and re-read a line just to hear it again in my head. Even the title, the Upworld, just strikes me as so unique and perfect for the book.
Not only is the story entertaining, the book cover is one of my all time favorites. Being able to hold it in your hand and just admire the beautiful cover makes the experience of reading this book that much better.
Overall, I found the story to be immensely original and entertaining. Lindsey is also a dear friend of mine and I hope we see more from this author soon.
